I know that just about everyone across the country is suffering from the current weather pattern.  I wanted to post about it really to document the temps for the day for future reference.  Our temp when I woke up was -16 and wind chill of - 44.  Minus 44.  I was watchng the weather channel.  Do you know what can happen at that wind chill?  If you are outside and don't blink your eyes your cornea will freeze.  Also, the post office will not be delivering mail.  I'm not sure about the newspaper, but I'll get it Saturday when it is supposed to be 50 degrees.  Brother

At 7AM Bosco wanted to go outside.  Max followed him to the door then backed up.  Bosco got his job done quickly and ran back in.  Later Harley wanted to go...NOT but I made him and that was fast too.

This is going to be a crazy dog day at my house.

Tell me what YOUR temps are.

Grateful:  Today I am totally grateful for electricity because our house has electric heat.

We are having one of the warmest winter since I have lived here. The nights are cold 32 degrees but the days warm up to the 50s and 60s. The wind of course is cold but lots of sunshine.

It's really been cold here these days. Right now it's -17C with a windchill of -28C. Plus we got our first real big snowfalls of the winter on Sunday and Monday. We've been very lucky this year :)

Right now it is 28 degrees here in SE CT on the shoreline--the cold front is due to blow in this evening...I will be hunkering down INSIDE for sure. Even though the temp looks fairly reasonable, our damp winds off the ocean really are bone chilling these days...
stay warm hugs, Julierose

So sorry for your weather, Carol! My son is in WI and also has a dog. Last night he was doing fine and not planning on going out until the end of the week. But the dog must go out, I don’t know how that will play out. NJ is not known for winter warmth, but the weather gods have smiled on us this year. It’s 25 above zero right now with a high for the day predicted at 33 above. We are not complaining today, but colder is coming, andall of it keeps most of us indoors. Be warm!

It was 10 degrees at 7am. Much warmer than I thought it would be! I guess we're going to get high winds later-with bad wind chill. My geese are in their kiddie pool in our back room (where they are every night anyway). Norton the dove watches the wild birds from his condo!

Today's forecast for my area (Shizuoka Japan) is 62 F. This winter has been very mild so far, with temperatures around 50 F most days. I understand completely why your dogs are reluctant to go out!

I feel for you! It's relatively balmy here in the Northwest, but I remember some horrid wind chills from when I lived in northern Illinois. What I most remember is how the insides of your nose freeze together as soon as you step outside and inhale! Stay cozy and warm inside.

We are currently (7:51 am) at 60*. This is a warm up from the 50s. We've had some cooler temps here in south Florida but they never last.

Hope you and the fur babies stay warm.

I’m supposed to get up to 57 degrees today, chilly for us but we are getting loads of rain. Bad news for that is the fire areas of Malibu may end up with more mudslides.
As for the dogs, I had two poodles when I lived in Minnesota. When the temp hit zero (not the windchill just the temp) one of my dogs wouldn’t keep all his feet on the ground so he couldn’t walk out to go to the bathroom. I’d run out with him in my bathrobe and slippers, get him to go and run back inside again! It was weird because even a few degrees above zero and he was fine and he was touching the snow with his feet and I wouldn’t think that would feel that much colder but, whatever, it was an experience!

Hopefully this will be the worst of the season and it’ll be better from here on out!

Stay inside and stay warm, Carol! That sounds horrifically cold - especially since I just looked at a Celsius/Farenheit conversion table!

We've heard about your very very VERY cold weather here in NZ. We're in the middle of a heatwave, we have had 35c (95F) here for a number of days and while thats not terribly hot compared to some parts of the world its very hot for us in NZ. I still keep finding my dogs laying out in the sun, silly things. Even though the ground is to hot to walk them for most of the day which most of them don't mind. Keep warm!

Freezing!
Metal earrings can freeze into painful frostnip, the intro to frostbite. I stay indoors as much as possible.
