Winter at the Frog Pond

If you follow my blog, you may remember that we built a fish/frog pond in our bird haven.  We have tons of frogs and have added lots of fish.  We started with everyday minnows from the bait shop.  Then Terry added a few gold fish, then a few BIGGER gold fish.  Finally he bought several Japanese fish. They are not Koi and look more like a goldfish than a carp.

When Terry designed the pond, he wanted to have one end deeper than 3 feet.  He had read that if it was, his fish would live through the winter.  Just to be on the safe side, he bought a horse trough water heater to keep an air supply to the water.  I didn't know what to expect, but its only supposed to cost about $7 a month to run.  My motto is if its reasonable and Terry is happy, well, that's good enough for me.

So as you can see, it heats just a small area around it to keep the ice from forming.  You will also notice that there are little foot tracks up to the thaw so we know that the squirrels and cats have visited.  We also see birds venture down to the water for a drink.

It is 14 degrees today.  Last week it reached 48.  I suggested to Terry to throw a little feed in the water, since the pond had thawed....Nothing.
Then later in the day, there they were.  The fish had come to the top for the food.
Its all good!

Serenity of A Blue Moon in a New Year 2010

A Blue Moon usually doesn't hold any mystery for me. The full moon is always a sight I love to see. I wonder why I was so excited about a Blue Moon on the eve of the New Year. I am sure sub-conscienceously it had a lot to do with the new decade. I tend to think of events in a metaphysical sense so for me somehow this moon foretells good things to come in the new decade. I already feel a serenity and peace that was not present for me last year. I am taking things a step slower. I am more focused on the task at hand. I am not allowing myself to be all things to all people. I am taking some of my hats off. I'm feeling good about it.
I am excited to be back to the BJP. I have missed spending time focused on something I enjoy and is a "just because I want to" project. I have missed it.
I knew my January page would be about the moon, which led to my using an item on my List for inspiration. I had intended to bead the moon, but while in Handcock Fabric this fabric called me to it. I loved the moon with the purple halo.
While beading this page, I was thinking about the wonders of the Universe; remembering those red stars you see that are not planes; believing that the sky IS the limit and the only limits we have are the ones that we have placed on ourselves.
Do YOU see an alien ship?

I Finally Realize What "The Secret" is

I finally realize what "The Secret" is. My friend Deb sent the book to me a while ago and periodically I pick it up and reread it, or portions of it.
Recently amazing things have been happening to me. I will be posting about it later because I have a lot of information to gather for the post.
In the meantime, if you are interested in the power of positive attraction, please follow this link. If you can achieve Vibrational Alignment as I believe I have, you will be amazed too.

Yes, I really do crochet

Meet Bob. Bob has been a member of our family for about 8 years or so. If you or someone in your family is into Martial Arts, you may have met one of his brothers.

Bob's a lucky guy. He lives with Corey, who takes good care of him. Corey makes sure Bob changes clothes frequently. You know how stinky....uh, I mean sweaty Martial Art guys can get.

Bob agreed to work with me on this post, though he is not really very photogenic. No matter what I did or said, I could NOT get Bob to crack a smile.

Here is Bob modeling the latest in Midwestern cold weather wear. Jacket by Volcom, bandana by Hobby Lobby and ...ta da... ruffled scarf of Homespun yarn crocheted by Carol, however I found the pattern somewhere on the web, as with all that follow except one.

This one is my own design. Though similar in design to others you may see, I crocheted this loopy boa, just crochet and go.
I bought this moebius cowl pattern on etsy at thinkdfrent. It was easy and quick. I like these cowls. Slip it over your head and never worry about losing it.

This scarf was also my own design. The great thing about scarf is you can just crochet stitches you know and when its the size you want...stop...block and you're done.

I've been making these while waiting for Corey after wresting practice or while waiting for him or his team mate's match at the Saturday wrestling tourneys.

First Clue That You Are Getting Old

Every week our newspaper lists the new movies that will begin showing in our area. Going to a theater to see a movie was eliminated from our budget a long time ago. Usually I buy the DVD when it comes out. Lately, I haven't seen many that I wanted to spend even $15 on. Renting them is a pain. I hate to have to remember to take them back.
Anyway, I was looking through that list in the paper and realized I didn't recognize the name of any movie star listed. Maybe I would recognize their face if it were shown too. Then I read another article that contemplated what current star should play Clark Gable in his life story. George Clooney was mentioned, then Leonardo DiCaprio. Wow! Two living stars I know mentioned in the same sentence.
I am going to mention here that my all time favorite actor until I die will be Paul Newman. I loved him in every single movie he was in. I believe that he was pretty selective in the parts he played. I loved him even when the sign of his age etched his face. You never know about someones personal life, but he was married forever and appeared to be a faithful loving husband. The fact that he used his celebrity to raise money philanthropically is another factor contributing to my love and respect for him.
So, my point is that I may look in the mirror and realize that the face reflected back doesn't quite look as good as the image I carry in my mind of myself. But it didn't really hit me that I am getting old until I realized that I don't know who the stars are in the movies that are playing at the local theaters.
What was your clue?

Resolutions or Goals?

It took me FOREVER to get through my blog roll on New Years Day!! Seems like everyone posted a New Year wish. Thank you all and right back to you.
Lots of my friends posted Resolutions for the coming year. But no one says if they kept the ones they made last year.
The best resolution that I ever made and kept was to enter each check I write into my checkbook when I write the check. That one was made out of my need to attack procrastination. Last year I vowed to tackle jobs head on, and I have made some headway, but mostly at work. Its still a problem for me at home.
So, I don't make resolutions to lose weight or any of those other ones that everyone makes only to break before the month is out.
My resolutions involve making myself a better person. They are usually the same every year, and if I have made headway, I am lucky and can step up to the next level by the next New Year. Its really a conscience effort to improve. Simple, huh. Well, it really is.
So, is it silly to list resolutions? I think not. But this year, I will list mine and put them in a visible place so I will be reminded of what I think I should be doing to improve my inner self.
HOWEVER !!! Resolutions are not the same as goals. I am basically a live today the best I can kind of person and I have never set long term goals. But, just for me, I am listing some of the things I RESOLVE to achieve in the short term.
#1 is my focus to meet my friend Deb in person. Just in case you don't already know this, I met Deb on My Space through our love of beads. Deb took the initiative to call me on the phone (which is something I never would have done). We have become fast friends ever since. I love her like the sister I never had. You all have no idea how much I wish we live in the same town.
I know how to knit--barely and I plan to reintroduce myself to knitting. My goal is to become as adept at knitting as I am crochet.
I love to bead embroider. My goal is to complete all 12 pages of the BJP03 and to concentrate on creating more bead embroidered pieces.
I want to incorporate my love of needlework and sewing into my creative endeavors.
Frivolous goals? No. It is my goal to make more time for myself doing what helps to build my self-esteem and that is being creative. My mode of self-improvement.
There is a lot to who I am that people don't know. Some people don't "get" me. On the other hand, I have met a few friends through my blog that do, and better than anyone I know in person. I am unorthodox in some respects. Mostly my spiritual beliefs. I will continue to explore my inner Zen.
2009 was one of the worst years ever. There was a lot of turmoil in my life. But I made it through with the help of good friends and Terry. I welcome 2010 with open heart and soul.
