If you follow my blog, you may remember the dolls that I beaded as a tribute to my friendship with Deb. If you don't know about them, please go here so you will know the background on this post. Deb beads way better than me, and you can see her work here
This is Deb, my best friend. MY BEST FRIEND. (not counting Terry, of course.) We talk everyday and share just so much of ourselves. I love this picture, and I LOVE the necklace she is wearing and I love her.

The Truth-Nuthin But The Truth

One of my cyber friends tagged me to tell 10 truthful things about me. I'm going to dig here and see what I can come up with. I am not passing the tag, but if you feel like playing, please do.

I posted a pic here of my bestest friend, Terry my husband. We spend a lot of time together and enjoy each other's company, even after 30+ years of marriage.

I like Facebook better than My Space.

I believe in gay rights, and it doesn't bother me one bit if a state allows gays to marry.

I will someday again spend a tremendous amount of time creating hand made purses which I will sell for a reasonable and fair price. They will be fantastic. I used to make and sell purses and I miss always having a sewing project on the table.

When I am a multi-million dollar lottery winner, I will build a fantastic animal rescue site. It is the first thing I daydream about when I think about being rich.

I like to watch sappy love stories on the Lifetime Movie Network.

I don't believe the world will end in 2012.

I used to be superstitious, but I am not anymore.

Terry paints my toe nails.

My favorite candy bars are Chunky. Why are they SO small!!

That's it. 10 things that are true. Now you tell me yours.

Bird Battles

This is a male Rose-Breasted Grosbeak. We saw one ONCE last year at our feeder. Saturday morning there were several males in the tree by the feeder and later in the day some females arrived. We were tickled to have a new bird breed hanging out at our house. Boy were we wrong!
If you follow my blog, you will recognize this as the feeder that I bought especially for my Cardinals. I never mind when other birds visit, I just try to keep the squirrels out. (I forgot to include how Terry rigged it to keep out those little rodents). So these pretty birds have absolutely taken over this feeder. One lands then proceeds to aggressively keep
every other bird from eating there. The only chance my Cardinals have is if they happen to get to the feeder first. I don't know what I am going to do about it, but my Cardinals will NOT be pushed out..nope.. over my dead body!! I'm going to have to make a trip to my bird seed guy.
And let me tell you, that is not the only bird battle going on in my yard.
Remember this little girl? She nested here last year and claimed this house as hers all winter long.

PhotobucketThis house is outside my kitchen window so we see a lot of what happens in this area of the yard. There is another birdhouse just like this one a short distance away. There were two pairs of sparrows making their nest in each of these houses. We watched while wrens went to the further house and actually went inside and started throwing the sparrow nest out the door. A day or so later another wren started doing the same thing to my pretty little bird's house. Man, that sparrow pair and wren pair actually FAUGHT over this house. I guess my girl won, because she and her guy mated on the roof and are building their nest now. I am so so happy she is still the resident. I look forward to seeing her every morning and evening. I lean on the counter looking out the window and talk to her. She seems to be looking back and intently listening to me tell her how pretty she is.

April BJP- Spinning

I organized my beads and now I can't find what I am looking for.
I used to have time to keep the house immaculate. Dishes were always done, laundry washed and put away, and no dog hair on the carpet.
The dogs get sick. The flu runs through the family. The car needs repairs. Tires go flat.
Work is slow and hours are reduced.
Tempers are easy to flare.

I was going to call this page SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL, because recently I felt a little like things were just out of control. But then, after thinking about it, I realized that things were NOT out of control. Sure there were situations that we COULDN'T control that needed to be dealt with to the best of our ability. But the situations that we COULD control were spinning a little, but never really got Out of Control.

All I can do is to keep things in perspective and deal as best I can with the things each new day brings. I guess you would call that "living". Far better than the alternative.

Kids and Books

This is Corey. He is 14 today. He has lived near me, next door or with me all his life. When he was little, I bought him every book that was published by Mercer Mayer. He LOVED them. We still have them all. He's not so passionate about reading now, but he does have magazines that he subscribes to AND reads, and when he wants information, he does research on line.

When I was young, books were my escape. I lived at the library searching for several to bring home and devour. Do you know that I never actually owned a book until I was in my teens. Sad.

The purpose of this post is to bring to your attention the fact that there are a lot of kids in areas of our country that need to have books made available to them. My friend
Jeanne is involved in a charity event that will benefit children that don't have access to enough books. Don't even OWN a book. Please visit her blog to learn more about it. The fund raiser is May 15th. If you use a voucher on May 15, available on her blog, at any Barnes and Noble a portion of the sale will go to the fund raiser.

I am not sure that I will be able to get to B&N that day, so I will be sending a contribution directly to the group.

Check it out. Even a $1 will help. Or print a voucher. If you don't want to buy a book that day, they have TONS of magazines.

Its a worthy cause.
