And Still August Drags On

The Good Part:
You might ask me what is Terry holding in his hand on that leaf.  Well, here's the story.  A few weeks ago we went to visit the kids...that's what we call Corey, Alyssa and Nic.  Nic had a cute little plastic box with holes on the top.  There were a few sections in it and what I would call a ferris wheel.  It's a worm house.  He had two fall bag worms in it and an Army Worm..at least that is what he told me they were.  So when Terry was pruning bushes, he found this neat worm. I say he has a Mohawk hair cut.  So we took it to Nic.  He called a few days later all excited because the new worm had cocooned himself on the side of the box.  I was excited because he can see what happens next.  It's pretty cool.  This week he added a spider to the box.

So Now Comes The Get Done With It August Part:

On the 23rd, Nic came to spend the night.  Most of their house was packed and ready to move and he wanted to spend time with us before they left.  The dogs are always excited when Nic is here and sometimes Harley gets a little out of control.  Nic is a small kid and it's easy for even Harley to knock him over. So as I was scolding Harley for jumping all over Nic, I got caught up in the little Devil Dog and Bosco in the dining room and pitched myself into the hutch. I slammed my face on the bridge of my nose into the ledge of the hutch.  Talk about seeing stars!  I really actually DID see a huge one like you see in the comics.  I laid on the floor calling Terry who looked at me asking What Can I Do.  Still a comfort that he was there as I looked at the puddle of blood on the floor. It was a LOT.  Luckily it was coming from my nose.  My head was not clear at all and he drove me to the ER just in case I needed to talk to a doc.  The ER was packed.  We sat there for an hour and still did not see the triage nurse.  Another hour went by.  By then I could at least raise my head so we went home...without being seen. I wanted to lay down and I felt nauseous.  The next morning I woke up and it's pretty apparent that I broke my nose.  There is swelling over my right eye and blood on the white of my eye.  Also a big cut on the side of my nose possibly from my glasses that are strangely crooked.  The lenses look cloudy and cannot be cleaned.  They don't look like they are scratched, but I am not going to have them looked at until the bruise on my nose is healed.  I'm pretty sure I broke my left thumb too.  Just another episode in this all too "crappy" August.  I use that word because we just had the septic tank emptied, lol.  See, I still have my sense of humor.

We did go to Walmart last night and I asked at the optometrist store if my glasses could be cleaned.  Nope...they are scuffed so it's new glasses for me.  These are not that old.  Yet another August expense.  Needless to say I am taking it easy as I still have a dull headache and swelled eye.

We have a list of 7 things to do for the kids that they couldn't complete before they left.  They texted last night that they are eating crab in Chicago.  Alyssa will have an ultrasound today to find out the baby's gender.

Grateful:  Today I am grateful...really I am...that there are only 5 more days in August, lol.

xx, Carol

Oh, Honey! It sounds like you and harley gave you a concussion. nausea is one of the signs as is dizziness, headache and vomiting. As you have 3 of the 4 you should take it easy and rest. Also excessive sleepiness that it is hard/impossible to arouse you from. If you get that one, Terry needs to take you to the er because it's worse than you thought and no fooling, GO! Above all TAKE IT EASY GIRL!

Oh my goodness! I hope you are doing okay! It sounds so painful. Heres a tip on glasses I learned. Always rinse them before wiping with a cloth meant for glasses. No shirt tails or tissues. Keep healing! Kit

Hi Carol!Maureen Champion here. I am actually a member of The Endeavourers, but my year has kind of been like your August, so I haven't been able to make anything. Will have my first group reveal with everyone on November 1st.
That being said, Holy Crow! Poor you! I broke my nose by smashing into a door jamb 15 months ago and it is So Not Fun. Maybe call/see your own doctor tomorrow to make sure you didn't break any facial bones -especially around your eye. And check out your poor thumb?

Carol! So sorry to hear of your accident and injury. Pay attention to what your other commentors are saying, don't tough it out if you suspect you should see a doctor. Hope you heal quickly and that you can get new glasses fast and inexpensively. Take care.

Sounds like a whale of an accident! Concussion highly likely, broken nose, maybe a broken thumb? Our ERs in town guarantee to talk to you (even if it's only triage) within 15 minutes. We have 3 systems and they compete, and all are pretty good. It's a disgrace you didn't get seen in 2 hours! I hope the rest of the month is calm, and September, too!

Oh my goodness! We go through this much of life and then start tripping and hurting ourselves? They may not be able to do much for your nose but did they set your thumb? You sort of need a useable thumb! Wow! Okay, only a few days left - take it easy lady! Don’t go out to the pond; wouldn’t want you falling in or anything! No selfie for us lol? Seriously, I hope you heal quickly and can enjoy the upcoming Autumn!

Oh, Carol! I'm so sorry about your fall and your poor nose. Can't imagine how much that must have hurt...and probably still does. Hope you are feeling better by now!

OMG, Carol, you have had one awful August! I’m sorry to hear you fell and hurt yourself, but grateful it wasn’t worse. (Your service in the ER was totally unacceptable and I would rant and rave about that, too, BTW). I hope you’re doing better! We’re getting new glasses now, too, but by choice. Not that anything’s helps these old eyes much anymore! Take care of yourself and don’t overdo it. xo

I'm very sorry to hear about your fall, Carol. It sounds so painful :( I can understand why you abandoned ER but I hope you'll have someone check you over because the last thing you need is for anything to set wrong. Also, sad to see your family move. Roll on September! Take care of yourself xxx

Oh Carol, I am so sorry about your fall. It sounds just awful, and I can't believe you did not get seen at the ER. At my age I hate to wish for any of the days to pass quickly, but it is so miserably hot and humid outside. I am so thankful too that we are in the last week of August. August has always been the month I dread most. Hope you are feeling better. Nothing hurts like getting hit in the nose, so I can imagine the pain you felt. I just read another blog post this morning at "a new life in wales" and Pam had fallen, face first. She had broken teeth and gum damage and will need surgery. Sure makes me want to be extra careful. Take care.

oh my, I hope you are mending! How terrible for you to fall! I was with my mom last November and she stubbed her shoe on the carpet in a restaurant, fell and broke her femur! It happened so quickly. She is doing great now......but any kind of fall is terrible! Love the worm story! Do take care of yourself! hugs and prayers

Prayers you nose heals well. I hope you do see a doctor.
After 4 broken noses, I can say a deviated septum thing is not pleasant. Have your nose examined.

Oh bless your heart! I sure hope that by now the pain and swelling are subsiding....Praying that you have a good doc and he will make sure you get all that you need to heal.
Thank you for coming to visit over at the Lilypad. I'm so sorry that I didn't have a chance to answer your question - my hubby had surgery and I'm a full time nurse until he gets some healing accomplished! If you would like to look at the cute pups and kitties in the show, just go to the blog and scroll down. You will see the linky party on the August (oops, I said a bad word) 10th post....it says Pets on Quilts 2018. I hope you get some enjoyment from looking, perhaps it will help the time pass as you heal.
Big hugs!

OMG! I hope you're feeling better. At least September is definitely here... in fact I'm not sure how it happened... one minute it was August and then somehow we're now halfway through Sept.

Cheryl said...

Goodness! Wow, that is just awful that you went head first into some furniture and ended up so badly hurt. I'm hoping your recovering well! A broken thumb too? Lordy, you'll find your life so altered without the use of your thumb! It is amazing the things you need that little dumb thing for lol.... not the least of which is pulling up your "drawers" lol Take care!!!

This is such an odd tale. I'm so sorry this happened to you. I hope by now you are all put back together and healed, although if your bones are broken that will take a couple more weeks. I just had to laugh at your closing line - being thankful there are only 5 more days in August! Too funny.

PS - Thank goodness Terry was there to help you. That's how our ER is too - no point in going as one will never be seen.
