Where Have I Been?

A few blog friends have asked me where I have been since I haven't posted in over a month.  Well, let me tell you a lot of things can happen in a month!!  A month ago I told you about a great sale at Lowes on carpet with free installation, they move furniture and they pay the sales tax.  I wanted to paint walls before the carpet came.  However, I injured my back which put me a week behind while I recovered.   Most of our walls are stained and varnished barn siding so one gallon of paint was way more than I needed.  I chose a really pale green.   I tested it in the bathroom first.  It was a hit so I moved on to the living room. Now I have new carpet and clean walls.  I had cleaned and dusted everything in the room from ceiling to floor.  Now I can't bring myself to hang anything on the walls, but of course I will.  See that Viking lamp in the picture?  My daughter bought it for Corey when he was little. (He's 23 now) and lost his love for the lamp a long time ago.  Terry and I love that lamp and it's been in our living room ever since Corey gave it up.  Our room is eclectic with a mix of American Indian and Big Cats...and that Viking Lamp.  I suspect it won't be long before I am watching furniture ads, but new blinds come first.  I guess I'll probably work over the whole house, but I'll take my time.  I have decided to sell a lot of the stuff we have been keeping for too long.  I have a 10 place setting of Fiesta Ware with a lot of serving pieces and their is a Pfaltzgraff set of Gourmet in the attic that can go too.  I don't want to leave a lot of stuff around to dispose of that the kids don't want.

I've carted off a lot of stuff from my craft to Goodwill.  I've sent some things and fabric to blog friends that I thought might like/use certain things I had.  I have a lot more to go, but need to find places that can use what I have.

Corey and his family have moved into a house they bought in South Bend.  I suspect they will continue to remodel it then either flip it or rent if they continue with their plan to  move west in the fall.  When they moved, they took Tyson with them.  He IS Corey's dog.  However, they left the Devil Dog otherwise known as Harley with us.  He and Bosco cannot be separated.

Now I start the task of getting back into the groove of stitching and plan to start a new quilt.

I leave you with a picture of the Devil Dog and a cute little story.

Sometimes Harley likes to jump up on the hamper in the bathroom to look out window to get a glimpse of a bird or squirrel.  While I was painting in the living room I heard him making a horribly vicious barking.  What in the heck did he SEE?  Well, it was another Harley that lives in the sliding mirror bathroom closet door.  He visits their often now when he is bored.
Today I am especially grateful for the entertainment our dogs provide.

How about you?  What crazy things do your pets do to entertain themselves?  Or, do you have Spring cleaning projects underway while not so patiently waiting for Spring to arrive?
xx, Carol

  1. The only pet we have now is a cat called Deva. She is 13 years old and we are very obedient slaves :)She mainly sleeps most days until she gets hungry.

I'm also in the de-cluttering and downsizing mode. I have given a lot to charity and some I've had to throw out simply because no one wants it. The local bin divers have had a field day though so it's all good. If I put something at the bottom of the driveway it usually disappears quickly. My guys have been told if there is something they want to keep then they have to claim it and take it away. Far away. Away as in not put in our garage until later.

  5. A spring spruce up, nothing like it to give the winter doldrums the boot! Looks lovely, Carol! My two kitties open dresser drawers, then climb in and toss things out. They stand on their hind legs and pull with their paws like little hands. Crazy!

  6. Your new room looks so clean and fresh, I'll bet you are lovin' it. If you ever get tired of that lamp it would probably fetch good money on ebay. The dogs are so entertaining but I'll bet you miss Tyson as well as Cory and family. Hope you get back to stitching soon, give your back a little rest. House work can be exhausting.

  7. Your paint and carpet look great! My rugs need cleaning and the hallway runners need replacing due to my newest dog having made lunch out of them but they aren’t made anymore so it’ll have to wait; besides, she is still chewing on stuff. You’ve got a good start! Furniture is easier than carpeting to replace. I need to paint but I moved here with a new paint job; I just didn’t know the places they’d missed but I am so tired of moving and painting out each place I just haven’t bothered. I have too much stuff to be moved in order to paint anyhow. I also need to downsize. It’s such a job! So kudos to you for getting started!

  8. Hello....your room is beautiful! I love that wood on the walls too-just the right touch. Devil Dog is so funny!
Our dove, Norton, takes baths when I run the vacuum. He bows when he hoots. Of course the geese are crazy sometimes too. Especially when you add water to a goose-they get the crazies just like a cat with a toy!

I would LOVE new carpeting though. and we just finished paying off the new windows....hmmmm.......?

  11. Working on some decluttering here too - mainly in the form of using what I have and not buying new things. Over the winter I got rid of a ton of old family photos - gave some of them away and scanned a lot into the family tree on Ancestry. Why, oh why, do we insist on taking a picture (or several!) of the Christmas tree every year? Or if someone happens to send me flowers, why do I feel I have to take pictures and stick them in a photo album, never to be seen again. I got rid of all those sorts of pictures and just kept the ones of close family members, knowing full well that our sons will simply toss the lot when I'm gone.

  12. my dogs have me wrapped around their little paws. my beagle mix likes to roam off leash so I carry left over bacon for a treat when he gets out of sight and then comes when I call. Now she gets out of sight on purpose just to get the bacon. I guess she is smarter than I am -lol!

I'm with you on the house work and I don't mean the cleaning kind. I decided to put in vinyl plank flooring in a 300 square foot area and it had taken me 2 weeks and still not done. I have no tools so am cutting the little parts out like door jambs and heater pipes with this little saw. but when it's done at least I can say - I did it! It is a good feeling of accomplishment.

  13. Your living room looks so fresh and cozy! Spring is such a great time to undertake projects and make fresh starts. Our cats love to run around and chase their catnip mice, but they REALLY love their little Nerf-like bouncy balls. Some days they’ll even carry them to other places in their mouths. I woke up yesterday morning with two cats and one ball on top of my bedspread! And like you, I’m doing another serious (deeper) round of de-cluttering.

  16. Hi Carol, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one thats been too busy to be stitching. Work (and life) has been nuts and just leaving me mostly too tired to even think about stitching. Your lounge looks lovely, we're about to paint and carpet ours too in the very near future. Apparently I need to pick a colour first (eyeroll) haha.

  17. Hi Carol, I find any home improvements quite a chore. I don't know what is the matter with me in that regard. Having a house with all wooden walls has eliminated the paint issue which suits me fine. Your lamp reminded me I do need to buy a floor lamp.
Meanwhile a good sort through and clean out is always a good thing. Pace yourself and good luck!
