I Found New Energy

I admit it, I am not a Spendthrift.  The kids actually know me as being rather frugal.  I'm OK with that. I don't mind ordering from the $1 menu.  I comparison shop whenever possible, and use items to the end of their life.  But when I went on line and saw that Lowes was having a sale on Stainmaster Carpet with free installation, old carpet removal AND moving furniture in order to install PLUS they pay the tax I just had to look around on line to see what the brand had to offer.  That led to a trip to the store.  Of course I already knew that I would be buying new carpet for the living room because this sale was too good to pass up.  I would not admit to you how old the carpet in the living room is.  But you might guess it's age if I told you that we got it when my daughter was little.  I was going to replace it 5 years ago, but Corey brought 2 puppies home and the idea that it was a good time to get new carpet went right out the window. So new carpet wheels are in motion.  Which of course led to the purchase of paint. I could not pass up the opportunity to paint the walls and not have to worry if it drips on the carpet.  No, I'm not getting new furniture too.  It still has life and I'll keep it until it dies.  But, I DO look forward to switching up my wall decor.  I just hope I don't run out of steam before I tackle painting the dining room and kitchen and, and, and.

So how about you.  Are you getting the Spring Cleaning bug too?

Today I am grateful for my friend the Sun who has come to visit and lifted my spirits and made me smile.
xx, Carol

  1. New paint and new carpet! Sounds great! Don't you love when you find such a good deal? In Japan, we do New Year cleaning instead of Spring Cleaning.

  2. Best of luck keeping full steam ahead on all your home improvement projects. Fresh paint before the new carpet is a great idea; perfect time to do it. New carpet will feel great and makes a home look new again. This all sounds exciting. So happy for you to find a good deal to help bring this all together.

  5. How timely! I've started a little spring cleaning, and this morning realized it was time for carpet cleaning. Maybe what I really need is new carpet! And I'd love a new paint job, but no energy for that. Hope you keep the steam going on your plans!

  6. HA! the new windows 2 years ago were fun. I finally got to finish painting the Living room walls! now there is just the front room left and i still can't decide on a shade for it. I wont even tell you how old the carpet is here ;) but it predates my hubs buying this house (1992). I cant wait to change it but we have to finish paying for the windows.
Which are great, I can't hear the neighbors rooster crow at 0'dark Fyou in the morning and our heating bill went wAy down!

  8. It sounds like you've been bitten by what Jack and I call the 'galloping ick' (meaning that changing one thing leads to many others!). Getting new carpet has to be exciting though.

  10. My spring cleaning always starts when we get home from Florida! Last year we had to do the 'replacing deck'and painting entire deck, which took all summer. This year it's new lamp hanging over the dining room table and a new area rug...then major hauling of stones for landscape...ugh...back breaking..think I'd rather paint the deck again. Glad you're getting new carpeting...will make you think you're in a whole new house.

  11. I call this "Domino Decorating" because one thing leads to another doesn't it? I'm excited your getting such a good deal on carpet, our carpet was original to our house (built in 1961).... it was GOLD. Just replaced that a few years back lol.... the carpet guys were in awe of it, they said it was made of wool and very strong and durable. Blah, blah, blah.... rip that sucker out of my house lol Gold carpet, eiy-eiy-eiy.... :-)

  12. Not spring cleaning, but if someone would come in, move my furniture, and paint my walls, I'd be absolutely thrilled! Sounds like a good deal you're getting.

  13. I think it's nice to have a change once in a while, especially if it can be done frugally. That carpet sounds like a very good deal and I always like a new coat of paint :) We sanded our floors recently and rearranged the furniture and it transformed our house. I hope you enjoy your new decor :)

  14. Wow, that sounds like a great deal, and you’ve arrived at the perfect time to take advantage of it. Painting will be a lot of work, but just pace yourself. It’s like eating an elephant - one bite at a time. Before you know it, it’s all done, fresh and clean. And what a great spirit-lifter a little refresh can be! Get some “before” pictures, too - they really help you appreciate the “after”.

  15. Good for you for finding the sale. I too look for bargains. I will admit it. I am a clean freak and spring clean all year round. However, I did put up new drapes in my house. I got a great deal on line. Have fun painting your house.

  17. What fun to redecorate! Spring causes that feeling, but it hasn’t quite felt like spring here yet. Too many Nor’easters! I’m glad to get back into blogland, that’s my new start for now. It feels good to be able to easily follow along everyday. I was away too long, always did love blogging. Just took a necessary vacation for awhile. Come visit!

  24. I bet the new carpet and paint will freshen up the whole room. I haven't redecorated anything lately, but I have been doing a lot of decluttering and that's freshening up my house a lot!

  25. I admire people who can manage their finances in a sensible way - being frugal is ok, what I cannot stand is overspending and then lamenting that they have no money. Happy Spring and happy spring cleaning!! :)
