Life on Hold

I've talked about my father-in-law before.  He has battled one cancer or another over the last 8 years.  He is 92 and does not easily give up.

He was having trouble walking.  Actually having trouble moving his left leg. About 5 days ago he entered the hospital to find out that he has a tumor on his spine and his lung cancer has grown.  He would not be able to take chemo, but they are treating the tumor with radiation.

We go go see him in the morning for 4-5 hours then go back in the evening for 3-4. Terry's youngest sister spends the night with him taking care of him.  The hospital he is in was once, in our opinion, the best in the area.  However, it has been bought by a large corporation and it has changed a lot.  Our family is not impressed.

We can't speculate what the next few days will bring, but we will be there to see him through it.

  12. Life on hold when a loved one is ill. I can relate. Infact i can relate right now... though not with cancer thank goodness. I hope all goes well Carol or as well as it can possibly go. Hubby had shoulder surgery yesterday and the pain relief from a nerve block is coming to an end and the shoulder is coming alive with pain... It was a rough night last night.. and we probably have a few more rough days and nights ahead of us. You will be in my thoughts Carol. i hope you catch the hugs i'm sending! Hugs! deb

  13. Oh, bad news. So sorry to hear this. Hospitals in general are lousy from what I am seeing with my daughter's mother-in-law. She doesn't even get her teeth brushed! Unless the family is there with her, no one makes sure she eats or even coordinates her care which meant one doctor saying put her on blood thinners and another saying take her off blood thinners and round and round. I surely hope it's going better for your father-in-law! Being with them especially when the doctors come in makes a huge difference! Do remember to take care of yourselves too - not skipping meals, getting your sleep and so on. He may need you all a lot for a while! Hugs and prayers to you all!

  20. Yes your FIL has been through some tough times. My heart, love, and prayers.
PS. Our medical facility was also bought out by a corporation. In the last three months 9 doctors have quit. Including ours and we are not to be called patients any longer, we are now customers. What does that tell you? Hugs to you.
