A Great Memories Day

Well, lots of friends on FB and blogging Happy Mother's Day wishes.  I have begun to call this Memories Day.  I always find myself reflecting on memories of my mom, my grandmother, my daughter and grandsons.

We started the day quietly.  I didn't cook at all, yay me.  Terry and I got Pizza Hut carry-out since we ate at Red Lobster yesterday.  Laurie took the boys out for the day, so Terry and I spent the day together and the biggest excitement was when he would  yell AWK out the door at the Starlings in the bird feeders.  Its hilarious to watch him and he is obsessed.

Hope you all had a great day today.  If you are not a mother, I hope you enjoyed memories of your mom.

  1. It sounds like Terry and I would get along -- I go absolutely berserk when I hear the House Sparrows out in my yard or hanging on my deck. They are not native birds to the U.S. and were transported from England in the 1800s -- since then they have taken over every parking lot and free eave they can find. They also take over all of the natural cavity nesting sites of some of my favorites like the Eastern bluebird and chickadee. They build a messy, trashy nest -- and they squawk an ugly awful noise...I can't stand to hear them in my yard and I will run them off, boil their eggs and allow Jack to take potshots at them with his pellet gun (they are not protected because they are not native)...I always say that if I'm in a nursing home and can no longer speak and I'm going berserk...it will be because a damn House Sparrow has nested outside my nursing home window!!!!!

Happy Mother's Day Carol...I'm glad you had a great day. You deserve it!

  3. i'm glad you had a good mother's day. i too had pizza hut. i thought i deserved an extra treat so i asked my husband if i could order wings with it. he said i could. well, when he went to the door to pay for it he absolutely flipped out because the wings were an extra $14. what the heck is up with that!? he can't tell me i'm not worth a $14 treat to my mother's day. oh well. they were tasty and i have some leftover to heat up today, too.

  4. so glad you had a happy mums's day Carol, and it seems that it is turning into a happy pest-bird-yelling day as well. I'm constanly chasing the blackbirds here in Aus as they dig up my vegies and lawn looking for worms.
    love the fun cartoon lady...k.

  7. Glad you had a nice day, Carol! :-)

    I did too.

I'm laughing here because I can almost picture Terry yelling out the door at the birds. We once had a woodpecker who wanted to use our house for a tree. He was continually pounding on one corner in particular and Sir Beads tried all the usual things (hanging strips of colorful paper, or a fake owl, etc.), and nothing scared the woodpecker away.

One day, we were having lunch and the bird started hammering, Sir Beads jumped up and leaned out the back door, yelling "Get outta here"! Then he popped back to the table as quickly as he left. We started cracking up thinking if somebody had been walking by our house, all they would have seen was a momentary glimpse of a door opening, a guy in the doorway yelling loudly, and then immediately popping back inside the house.

It would be like a cuckoo clock - the door springs open, you hear a loud sound, and then it closes!!

That is how I picture Terry yelling AWK, too.

Hey, maybe Terry and Sir Beads were also separated at birth. ;-) lol

  8. So we both had pretty quiet days. Nothing wrong with that at all. Sometimes it's just what we need. I'll pass on the pizza though. I do not know how people can eat as much pizza as they do. My daughter put lots of Totinos pizzas in her oven for dinner. I had an old family recipe for a chili spaghetti. I had to cook it but that was okay. I enjoyed it.

Gotta admit it's been a while since the last time I was here... I've been busy beading though I gotta admit I should be stitching (embroidery). LOL Anyhoo, I had to open a new blog just for my beadworks!
