BJP 03

This is the last page I completed last year and it is my favorite. Nope, the beading is not that great. But it has color and its fun and it has wild hair. I was new to bead embroidery last year and I am not sure that my skills improved very much. But it doesn't matter. Even though I joined to practice and improve my skills, what I came away with was much more important than that.

I have always been a person to keep my secrets and not let anyone in to my inner thoughts. Oh, I have always been outspoken and usually will share my opinion, but never about personal matters. This past year I met a lot of friends and have felt a freedom that I never had before to share my views of spirituality, my inner turmoils and the joy I find in nature and wildlife and my family. I came a long way.

This year, there is such a diverse group its amazing. I know many of you already because I follow your blog or have met you on Facebook. I am so anxious to see what the fiber artists will create in their pages.

We are all asking each other what will our theme be this year. Besides being a wife, mother, grandmother and all the other relative identities that describe me, there are things that I love that contribute to who I am.

I have decided that this year, my pages will be about those things that are special to me and that I will incorporate the pages into a piece of wearable art. I haven’t decided yet what I will make, but it probably will be a handbag. I got a lot of encouragement last year to begin making them again. If you follow my blog, you will hear more about that in the future.
Unless I change my mind again, the shapes will be 3-1/2” octagons.

So, I have compiled a list and each month I will select something from the list to create a page around. Or, perhaps it will be about a recent occurrence that had a profound effect on me. I intend to keep it light and fun and colorful.

  1. Sounds like a great plan. You have a great list of things you like that you can use for the year also! I've been trying to think of what I will use for my platform. The idea of a purse is a good one but I'm not sure I could make one the way I'd like it to be but now you have me thinking of adding beading to something in a different way than my mind was going.
I still haven't finished last years pieces. Each is a stand alone piece with no purpose. I like the idea of doing the beadwork on something I would use a lot.

  2. This piece of beadwork made me smile the very first time I saw it - and still does! It's so full of color and whimsy. I especially love the eyelashes.

You've made a great plan for this year! And the octagon shapes would be unique and very beautiful.

What a fascinating list you have written here - I love many of those things, as well.

Here's to a fun and very creative winter for us all!

    Crystal :-)

  4. I absolutely love that face! It is so colorful and fun...so YOU! I think you did a beautiful job on the beading BTW!!

I adore your idea this year and I love your list to choose from! 3-1/2" octagon is a great shape and nice size. You've mentioned the handbag before and I think that would be very cool!

Looking forward to seeing your pieces! XO ~me

    Love the face!

Your random list of favorites was quite fun to read. Made me think what my list would read. . . .

Looking forward to your journey through the BJP!
