Excited about BJP08

Well, I have been visiting the blogs of the participants as they post a greeting to the BJP blog. Today, I met Kolleen in the Midwest. She made a comment on her blog that put into words part of the reason I am so excited to be participating in this project. She wrote that she is looking forward to "make things for no reason other than I want to".

Most things I make have a material purpose. A use, so to speak. The item will be worn by me, its meant to be a present or donation, or to be sold. This project is just for me. Maybe that is exactly why I chose the theme to be ME. I am not sure where it will take me, but I have several pages already planned in my mind. Each month I will look forward to creating a 4" x 4" page that depicts something about me. I am already amazed at some of the thoughts I have had that I didn't even realize were within me. This is going to be an interesting 12 months!!

And thank you Kolleen.

A New Stitch Learned-Netted Rope

I have a friend who made a beautiful bracelet using this stitch. She encouraged me to try it too and I fell in love with it. I am not crazy to wear beaded bracelets, but I will turn this into a necklace. This section is 8 inches long made with 6's and 8's. I am thinking I will add 2 more sections using smaller beads.

A Hawk Visits

I wish this picture was closer. I looked out the living room window and was absolutely stunned to see a hawk sitting on the bird bath. I hurried to take a picture, but by the time I got a second one, he had flown to the telephone wire behind the tree. When I went outside to try to get another, I was surprised to see him sitting on the wire next to a yellow finch--he saw me and flew. I am not sure what kind of hawk he was. We have a Cooper Hawk swoop in on the feeders every now and then trying to catch lunch. He even sat on the porch once. This bird was greyish and white. A few days before this picture, I had seen him roosting in the tree and fly out, but it was all in a second and I didn't really get a good look. I don't know why its so thrilling to see a hawk up close. Maybe because they seem more WILD than the usual birds at the feeder.

37 Years With The Right Man

Originally I posted with no picture. When my husband read the post he got his camera out to show me a picture of us together that he really liked, so I have posted it here. It was taken in January 08. Its one of my favorites also. Today I have been married for 37 years. 37 years is a long time for anything, but for me this 37 years seems like one. Its been a good time, its been a hard time, its been wonderful.

Terry paid me many compliments over the years and I am not sure what my favorite or most treasured is, but one is certainly the one he paid to me yesterday. He said I have been easy to live with. I wonder what the look on my face was! SHOCK? Well, why WAS I surprised, when I feel the same way about him.

Thank you Terry, for 37 years of partnership. When I pray, I ask for 37 more.

What I Have Been Beading

My beading friends have been asking me what I have been beading. I was trying to work on a peyote stitch freeform bracelet. I love free form so much- visually. I had THE hardest time creating something freeform that - and this is hard to admit- I postponed (not quit) this project. I have never been one to quit, but I can acknowledge the fact that I need more knowledge and experience to be satisfied with anything I might create in free form. Anyway, that challenge was not a loss. I learned a lot of peyote mistakes not to make again and also tried my hand at a little netting while at it. Then moved on to beading a bezel. The picture on the right is one of my rejects. Beaded bezel with a little netting around it then I capped it off with some netting across the front because the bezel stretched and I couldn't keep the bead in -- SHEESH! I like the final project I ended up with which is the pic on the left.
So the learning experience for the newbie bead weaver was:
Beading a bezel and determining I like it embroidered better.
Learning the spiral rope stitch
Learning a very little about netting
and- and a big one for me-
Being able to complete the first 3 rows of peyote without becoming frustrated.
Not bad for someone that postponed a freeform project.
Thanks to all my Bead Dreamz friends. I could not have done it without you!!

Squirrel Finds A Travel Pillow

Yesterday morning shortly after I woke up I looked out the front door. Across the street I saw a squirrel dragging something bigger than her and bright orange. I watched and tried to figure out what she had and was so engrossed I forgot to get my camera. She dragged it across the neighbors front yard and actually dragged it up a tree! I have seen plenty of squirrels make nests, but I have NEVER seen anything like this! Well, I hurried to get my camera and went across the street to watch what she did with what I determined to be a travel pillow. Here you see pictures of her actually tearing apart the pillow to get at the stuffing. The last pic shows the orange cover. The whole thing was packed between a fork in a branch. I am not sure if squirrels are still mating. I just hope this isn't a sign of the sqirrel knowing she is going to need an extra warm nest this year!
